History

Washington
Housing Authority was created by
the City of Washington and chartered
by the State of North Carolina
in 1961. The first two residential
developments were constructed to
replace substandard housing in
the City and were occupied in 1965.
To date, Washington Housing Authority
owns and manages 383 Public Housing
units and administers 370 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.

| Mid-East
Regional Housing Authority was created
after several counties determined
that there was a need for low and
moderate-income housing in rural
areas of Eastern North Carolina.
It was chartered by the State of
North Carolina in 1969. The Authority
operates and manages low and moderate-income
housing in the following counties:
Beaufort, Bertie, Hyde, Martin, Pitt,
Tyrell, and Washington. Mid-East
Regional Housing Authority owns and
manages 366 Public Housing units
and administers 537 Section 8 Housing
Choice Vouchers. |
